In today’s world, children and teens face a mounting mental-health crisis. Rates of anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation are rising dramatically, and these trends threaten not only emotional well-being, but academic success, peer connection and the capacity to thrive.
Studies show that youth suicide rates have soared in recent years. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide is now one of the top causes of death for adolescents and young adults.
These challenges do not exist in isolation. A child whose nervous system is frequently triggered by stress, digital overload or social comparison may find it harder to concentrate at school, to get restful sleep, to form trusting friendships, or to feel safe inside their own mind. Academic performance can decline, engagement can falter, and the bright promise within each student may dim.
Project Pause believes that within every child there is a “little light”—a spark of resilience, creativity and joy—and our mission is to help each child press pause, reset, and shine. Through intentional breath, mindful movement, journaling, laughter and community connection, we guide children to step off the treadmill of worry, breathe deep, return to center and rediscover their innate light.
We envision a generation of young people who know how to pause, breathe, reset and recommit—to themselves, to their learning, to their friends and to a future of high possibility. We see schools, community centers, shelters and after-school programs partnering with Project Pause to embed mindfulness, movement and joy into the daily fabric of student life.
By equipping children with the tools to regulate their nervous systems, build social-emotional resilience and rediscover play, we set the stage for:
• Improved academic engagement and performance
• Fewer behavioral disruptions and disciplinary incidents
• Stronger peer and adult-child relationships
• Reduced rates of anxiety, depression and self-harm over time
• A ripple effect of compassionate leadership, community-minded youth and a brighter tomorrow
We are committed to ongoing research, measurement and refinement. We will track outcomes — emotional regulation, attendance, peer-connection, self-report of resilience — and we will share our findings transparently.
Together with students, families and schools, Project Pause says yes to possibility, yes to pause, and yes to the little light within.
